Learn about Dr. Christine Cabrera

I love to read (fantasy and romance mostly) and I attend a monthly book club.

I‘m a mom and it’s a part of my life and identity that continues to teach me about myself and the world.

I speak Spanish and love the chance to work with Spanish-speaking clients.

I have more than 10 years of experience working with clients who live with anxiety or mood disorders, have experienced trauma, or who are living with chronic injury/health concerns. I believe it’s important to consider the whole person and to build on their existing strengths to create coping skills that are accessible for real-life challenges. I take an integrative approach that is informed by cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness, emotion-focused therapy and internal family systems. I look forward to collaborating with you on meeting your goals and maximizing your psychological health in a supportive and affirming environment.

In addition, I work with adolescents/young adults who are experiencing life transitions including adjustment to university/work settings, academic concerns, or peer/family/romantic relationship shifts.

Recently, I have been working on burnout recovery and stress management strategies with clients.

Background

I completed my Ph.D. at the University of Ottawa and have published in academic journals as well as engaged in research.

I have over 15 years experience in clinical practice. I have experience working in settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private practices, and university health centres. I have also held psychology positions at London Health Sciences Centre and The University of Toronto.
